Shire Yoga is a friendly and nurturing environment for learning Iyengar Yoga

An Iyengar Yoga teacher is required to have a vast knowledge of the body's structure and systems as well as a deep understanding of the philosophy of Yoga.

Iyengar Yoga is unique because it is characterised by the practice of asana (postures) and pranayama (breath work) which emphasizes precision and alignment, planned sequencing, timings and the use of props.

The use of props allows people of varying ages, as well as all levels of health and fitness, the ability to practice safely with the support that is needed.

The planned sequencing of an Iyengar Yoga class brings the physical, physiological and psychological aspects of ourselves into balance.

Students with a sustained Yoga practice enjoy benefits such as: "The ability to face the physical, mental and emotional challenges of contemporary life with strength, vitality, mobility, thoughtfulness and equanimity".
