The Benefits of Yoga

Iyengar Yoga is an art, a science, a therapy, an exercise and an experience. It brings to its practitioners peace, joy, strength and clarity for understanding the journey of life.

Yoga focuses the brain, quiets the mind, disciplines the body and uplifts the spirit.

"Words cannot convey the value of Yoga - it has to be experienced". B.K.S Iyengar

Exercise therapeutically with the ‘Iyengar method’ of Yoga.

Christine Harpley assists each student in finding their way into and out of the Yoga poses. It is not a practice that involves contorting the body as is sometimes assumed, nor is it about flexibility, or lying around chanting Om! Iyengar Yoga is far more balanced and layered than this.

We all have our strengths and weaknesses and this is recognised and addressed with the appropriate support.

The ‘Iyengar method’ of clear and accurate alignment principles gives All people an opportunity to begin a practice that has stood the test of time; some 2,500 years.

Flexibility is harmful if not gained through an understanding of how our muscular and skeletal systems are designed to be used. This disciplined practice when taught with clear and precise instruction helps the student to understand what ‘their’ body needs to find the balance between strength and flexibility.

It affects the ‘whole’ person physically, physiologically and psychologically. When an equilibrium is achieved at all levels of being one is able to find the path to peace .

Human beings all wish for the same things; a healthy body and mind, love, purpose and freedom. The disciplined approach of the 'Iyengar method' opens a door for one to find their purpose and reach their potential as human beings.

“Yoga is intrinsically linked to the creation of space. Space in joints, length in muscles, composure in our thoughts and emotions; space in our lives. Space requires a stable framework built with acute understanding on clear firm foundations. The building of this framework is the intent of Yoga as a practice discipline". Peter Thomson Senior Iyengar Yoga Teacher
